How The Phenomenon of The Harry
Potter Series
Got Everyone Reading Books Again.
Since word started to spread in 1998 when the Philosopher's Stone (Sorcerer's Stone in US) was released children of all ages and many of their parents have been clamoring for Harry Potter.
The amount of fans the Harry
Potter series has is staggering. Not since the Lord of the Rings
have so many people fallen in love with a series of books.
Kids
who refused to read before have become bookworms, reading and re-reading
J.K. Rowling's books until the covers fall off and they have to buy
new ones. The latest book, Order of the Phoenix sold over 5
million copies in its first 24 hours of release!
Boys and girls alike love
reading about Harry's adventures. Children in all different countries
across the world have picked up Potter fever. And if that isn't
amazing enough, adults love it too! Along with the regular release
these books are published with "adult" covers, not only do they have
different graphics but they don't have the title of the book on the
cover. Many adult Potter fans said they were embarrassed to be
seen reading "childrens" books so the publishers decided to hook them
up.
In this age of diversity to
have anything that appeals to all ages and all cultures seems an
impossibility, but somehow J.K. Rowling's book series does just that.
Below is a short synopsis of each of the 5 books released so far.
Harry Potter and the
Philosopher's Stone aka Sorcerer's Stone: Harry Potter has no idea how famous he is.
That's because he's been kept in a cupboard under the stairs in his
miserable aunt and uncle's home. They are terrified Harry will
learn that he's really a wizard, just as his parents were. But
everything changes when Harry is summoned to attend Hogwarts, an
infamous school for wizards, and he begins to discover some clues about
his parents and his past. From the surprising way he is greeted by a
lovable giant with a magical umbrella, to the unique curriculum and
colorful faculty at his unusual school, Harry finds himself drawn deep
inside a magical world he never knew existed and closer to his own noble
destiny.
Harry Potter and the
Chamber of Secrets: When the
Chamber of Secrets is opened again at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and
Wizardry, second-year student Harry Potter finds himself in danger from
a dark power that has once more been released on the school. Harry
is visited by a nervous yet magical house-elf who warns him of great
peril if he returns to Hogwarts - a warning he chooses to ignore. Upon
his return to school, Harry and his best friends Ron and Hermione start
to investigate the true story of the Chamber of Secrets but before they
know it a mysterious force begins turning the other students to stone...
and Harry is soon the main suspect.
Harry
Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban:
For Harry, the Hogwarts campus has always been a sanctuary, but when
Sirius Black escapes from the horrifying clutches of Azkaban Prison, all
clues suggest the madman is headed for Hogwarts and Harry himself. As a
result, the school starts to feel more like a prison than a sanctuary as
Harry finds himself constantly watched and under guard. What's more, the
terrifying Dementors, the horrifying creatures who guard Azkaban Prison,
are lurking about the campus looking for Black.
Harry
Potter and the Goblet of Fire: Harry
Potter is midway through his training as a wizard and his coming of age.
Harry wants to get away from the pernicious Dursleys and go to the
International Quidditch Cup. He wants to find out about the mysterious
event that's supposed to take place at Hogwarts this year, an event
involving two other rival schools of magic, and a competition that
hasn't happened for a hundred years. He wants to be a normal,
fourteen-year-old wizard. But unfortunately for Harry Potter, he's not
normal - even by wizarding standards. And in his case, different can be
deadly.
Harry
Potter and the Order of the Phoenix:
When the government of the magic world and authorities at Hogwarts
School of Witchcraft and Wizardry refuse to believe in the growing
threat of a freshly revived Lord Voldemort, fifteen-year-old Harry
Potter finds support from his loyal friends in facing the evil wizard
and other new terrors.
This is a wonderfully complex book that answers many questions readers
have had since the first book. More importantly it asks new questions
that raise the stakes for our heroes’ lives.

Prince takes up the story of Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts
