The wand always chooses the
wizard, never the other way around. There is an unspoken bond
between a wizard and his wand, it is the most powerful tool and weapon a
wizard has. Just ask Ron Weasley...

 Harry - Eleven inches, Holly,

Ron - Charley's old wand, chipped and worn, Unicorn Hair.
John Potter - Eleven inches, Mahogany, Pliable, Strength in

Lily Potter - Ten and a quarter inches, Willow, Swishy, Perfect for

Hagrid - Sixteen inches, Oak, Snapped in half when he was expelled now

A wand is one of the
requirements for students attending Hogwarts. It is used in just
about every class (except maybe Herbology), there is even some use for
it in Potions. Always remember - Underage use of magic is
prohibited outside of Hogwarts! The Ministry of Magic is very
strict about this rule, I don't want anyone getting expelled because
they were overzealous with their magic wand.
